KIC X5 Thermal Profiler Operation Manual

1. Preparation Work

  1. Check complete accessories: main unit, thermal barrier box, K-type thermocouples, USB cable, dongle, high temperature tape, heat-resistant gloves and storage case.
  2. Inspect equipment appearance, ensure no damage to ports and thermocouple wires.
  3. Preheat reflow oven / wave solder oven to standard working temperature.

2. Software & Driver Installation

  1. Install official KIC profiling software on Windows computer.
  2. Insert software dongle, finish driver installation automatically.
  3. Connect KIC X5 main unit to PC via USB cable, power on the tester.
  4. Open software and confirm successful device connection.

3. Parameter Setting

  1. Create new test file, input production line ID, product model and test batch info.
  2. Set sampling frequency: 1Hz~5Hz for normal SMT production.
  3. Select available test channels, name each channel clearly.
  4. Set standard thermal profile specification according to solder paste requirement.
  5. Finish cold junction calibration at room temperature.

4. Thermocouple Installation

  1. Connect thermocouple probes to corresponding channels.
  2. Fix probes tightly on PCB test points: BGA, chip top, solder joint, board edge etc.
  3. Fix KIC X5 main unit inside thermal barrier box firmly.
  4. Ensure wires will not be stuck by oven conveyor chain.

5. Start Temperature Profiling

  1. Click Start Record on software side.
  2. Put the tested PCB together with profiler into oven inlet normally.
  3. Follow actual production running speed completely.
  4. Take out PCB after passing through whole oven zones.
  5. Click Stop Record to finish data recording.

6. Data Analysis & Report Export

  1. Download full temperature curve data to PC.
  2. Auto calculate key parameters:

    Rise rate, peak temperature, soak time, TAL time, cooling rate, PWI value.

  3. Compare actual curve with standard process window.
  4. Generate official PDF inspection report.
  5. Save data file for production traceability and process adjustment.

7. Important Notes

  1. Wear heat-resistant gloves when taking high-temperature samples.
  2. Keep thermal barrier box intact to avoid high temperature damage to host.
  3. Regularly check and replace aged thermocouples to guarantee test accuracy.
  4. Charge the tester regularly to prevent battery power loss.
  5. Keep software and dongle stable for long-term factory use.
